To help facilitate a smoother workout, our lovely exec have suggested that we draft up a list of definitions for the most commonly used names/abbreviations/concepts in our swim practices (pretty sure this will be included as a .pdf in the next bulletin):
Top 5 Speed Measurements
Desc – Descend in time – each rep gets faster (discrete drops in time)
Build – A crescendo of speed for a given rep (smooth increase)
BTS – Build To Sprint (get to your top speed by the end of rep)
GP – Goal Pace (hold the split of best time on a fresh 1000 SWIM ONLY)
Strong – Swim as fast as it feels nice. Struggling? Slow down.
Top 5 Drills/Movements
CU – Catch Up (drill – ask vet for demo)
3rd SMG – Third Stroke Max Glide (drill – ask vet for demo)
EZ Tech – Swim easy, prioritize form/technique
DPS – Distance Per Stroke (longer, but normally functional strokes)
FTD – Fingertip Drag (drill – ask vet for demo)
Top 5 Logistic Devices
Interval – Time to LEAVE the wall after each rep
Pace – Time to TOUCH the wall on per rep
Score – Basic measure of efficiency (Strokes added Time in seconds)
:WFG – Wait for group (don’t leave until everyone is ready)
:06 HR – Your HR over 6 seconds (less precise, but easier to get BPM)
For simplicity’s sake, I will be keeping the nomenclature the same for this season. However, feel free to suggest some names that roll off the tongue a bit more smoothly! If I hear/see somethin nice I’ll probably start using it next season. (Example: Nate reminded me about the synonym “cruise” for the concept of “strong” I’ll definitely be switching that up if I get a chance next time)
