5. Swim Etiquette
If you are new to swimming with other people or need a pool guidelines refresher, please ensure to follow a few rules of the pool:

– Please try to show up on time and if you do join in late you will need to join the workout in progress in the lane.
– Before entering a lane let other swimmers know you will be joining – either join in a gap or put a hand in to alert another swimmer to your presence before getting in. Do not expect those swimming a set to stop to let you in.
Start swimming and at the next stop ask people where they are in the workout.
– The fastest in the lowest number lanes (closest to the east end/changerooms) and the slowest in the highest number lanes. If you are significantly and consistently  a different speed to the swimmers in your lane, consider moving to a more appropriate lane that is closer to your pace.
– Within a lane you will learn each lane mates’ speed and please sort yourselves letting the fastest start the intervals. As people improve or get tired during a workout your speeds will change. Again, if you are unsure, please ask the coach on deck.
– In a 25m pool it is more difficult to execute a pass safely. If you are catching up to someone and need to pass, tap them on the toes or wait to the end of the set and ask to go ahead. The person so tapped should be alert at the next end and allow space for the faster swimmer to come through. Also remember that to get a true measure of your relative speed to the person ahead you have to start 5-10 seconds behind the leading person to avoid drafting otherwise you might catch up to the person ahead. In this case, you may tap the person’s toes, pass at the end, and then be caught only to be tapped in the toes by the person you passed.

5. Punctuality
Punctuality is important as it allows practices to function better for you, the coaches and other club members.
Being on time to practice means getting on deck, to spin or track before the start of the workout.
Please be respectful to the coaches and your fellow club members and arrive to practice on time.
